Qualifications

Active Member. Meet one of the following criteria:
| - | Possess a valid license as a Public Accountant or Certified Public
Accountant |
| - | Be accredited in accountancy or taxation by the Accreditation Council for
Accountancy & Taxation (ACAT) |
| - | Be enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service |
| - | Be registered by the California Tax Education Council (CTEC) |
| - | Possess an associate or baccalaureate degree with a minimum of 24
semester hours in accounting. |
| - | Have three years of bookkeeping experience |
| - | Meet existing requirements for Active Membership in the National Society
of Accountants (NSA) |
| - | Be a Life Member (designated by a vote of 3/4 of the Board of Directors) |
Associate Member. Meet one of the following criteria:
| - | Be an employee of an accounting or tax practitioner firm |
| - | Be an employee of a government, financial institution, private sector
business or nonprofit entity, with primary duties in the field of
accountancy or taxation for no fewer than three years |
| - | Be an instructor or teacher of accounting at an accredited college,
university or business school |
| - | Be an Honorary Member (designated by a vote of 3/4 of the Board of
Directors |
| - | Be an out-of-state member (a person who does not reside in the state of
California) |
Retired Member.
| - | Be a person who has retired from practice but otherwise
meets the requirements of Active Membership, except for continuing
education |
Student Member.
| - | Be a student pursuing a course of study in accounting,
business adminstration or related subjects at an accredited post-secondary
school |
Charter Member.
| - | Be an individual who became a member during the
society's inception period of November 1, 1985 to September 1, 1986
and has maintained uninterrupted membership |
