Qualifications

Active Member. Meet one of the following criteria:

Possess a valid license as a Public Accountant or Certified Public Accountant
Be accredited in accountancy or taxation by the Accreditation Council for Accountancy & Taxation (ACAT)
Be enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service
Be registered by the California Tax Education Council (CTEC)
Possess an associate, baccalaureate or higher degree with a minimum of 24 semester hours in accounting.
Have three years of bookkeeping experience
Meet existing requirements for Active Membership in the National Society of Accountants (NSA)
Be a Life Member (designated by a vote of 3/4 of the Board of Directors)

Associate Member. Meet one of the following criteria:

Be an employee of an accounting or tax practitioner firm
Be an employee of a government, financial institution, private sector business or nonprofit entity, with primary duties in the field of accountancy or taxation for no fewer than three years
Be an instructor or teacher of accounting at an accredited college, university or business school
Be an Honorary Member (designated by a vote of 3/4 of the Board of Directors
Be an out-of-state member (a person who does not reside in the state of California)

Retired Member.

Be a person who has retired from practice but otherwise meets the requirements of Active Membership, except for continuing education

Student Member.

Be a student pursuing a course of study in accounting, business adminstration or related subjects at an accredited post-secondary school

Charter Member.

Be an individual who became a member during the society's inception period of November 1, 1985 to September 1, 1986 and has maintained uninterrupted membership
